The National Average Diesel Fuel Price Decreases
This week’s national average price of diesel fuel decreased as did the prices in all regions as well. The current national average for a gallon of diesel is $2.781, a decrease of 0.052¢ from last week. By comparison, the price for a gallon of gasoline decreased to $2.661 per gallon which is 0.044¢ lower than last week.
Bloomberg Energy reports that as of Monday, February 1, the spot price for a barrel of West Texas Intermediate oil is $73.71 which is $0.21 lower than last week’s price.
The National Average Diesel Fuel Price Increases
This week’s national average price of diesel fuel increased as did the prices in all regions as well. The current national average for a gallon of diesel is $2.781, an increase of 0.051¢ from last week. By comparison, the price for a gallon of gasoline increased to $2.665 per gallon which is 0.047¢ higher than last week.
Bloomberg Energy reports that as of Monday, February 15, the spot price for a barrel of West Texas Intermediate oil is $80.28 which is $6.15 higher than last week’s price.
Oil Edges Up Over $72 a Barrel
Oil rose to more than $72 a barrel early Tuesday, up slightly from the previous two trading days, in advance of a government inventory report due out this week, Bloomberg reported.
Crude futures were trading at $72.80 in early New York Mercantile Exchange trading, up from the $71.89 closing price on Monday.
Oil closed Friday at $71.19, the lowest closing price since mid-December, Bloomberg reported.
The Department of Energy’s price surveys on diesel and gasoline pump prices — usually released on Mondays — will not be released Tuesday because the U.S. government remains closed in the Washington, D.C., area due to the Mid-Atlantic weekend blizzard.
DOE’s weekly inventory survey, which usually comes out on Wednesday, may also be delayed this week.
Oil Drops Below $79 Following Consumer Confidence Report
Oil fell more than $1 Tuesday to below $79 a barrel following a report that showed declining consumer confidence, Bloomberg reported.
Oil fell $1.30 to close at $78.86 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange following the consumer confidence report released earlier in the day by the New York-based Conference Board.
Crude futures finished the trading day Monday at $80.16 a barrel, topping $80 for the first time in six weeks.
World oil demand is projected to rise 1.9% this year over last year, the Paris-based International Energy Agency said earlier this month.
Demand last year fell 1.5% from 2008, according to IEA figures, Bloomberg said.
Diesel’s national average price of diesel jumped 7.6 cents Monday to $2.832 a gallon, the first increase in six weeks, the Department of Energy reported.

By comparison, the price for a gallon of gasoline increased to $2.819 per gallon which is 0.031¢ higher than last week.
Bloomberg Energy reports that as of Monday, March 22, the spot price for a barrel of West Texas Intermediate oil is $81.08 which is $1.62 higher than last week’s price.

The National Average Diesel Fuel Price Tops $3.00 Per Gallon
This week’s national average price of diesel fuel increased as did the prices in all regions and the current national average for a gallon of diesel is $3.05, an increase of 0.076¢ from last week. By comparison, the price for a gallon of gasoline increased to $2.826 per gallon which is 0.028¢ higher than last week.
Bloomberg Energy reports that as of Monday, April 5, the spot price for a barrel of West Texas Intermediate oil is $81.08 which is $5.54 higher than last week’s price.
Oil hovers below $87 after mixed U.S. supply report
Oil prices hovered below $87 a barrel Wednesday in Asia after a report showed U.S. gasoline supplies fell more than expected last week while crude and distillate inventories rose.
Benchmark crude for May delivery was down 1 cent to $86.83 a barrel at late afternoon Singapore time in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract rose 22 cents to settle at $86.84 on Tuesday, while earlier in the day prices touched a new 18-month high of $87.09 a barrel.
Gasoline inventories dropped last week by 3.0 million barrels, the American Petroleum Institute said late Tuesday. Analysts had expected a fall of 1.0 million barrels, according to a survey by Platts, the energy information arm of McGraw-Hill Cos.
However, inventories of crude and distillates rose, the API said.
The Energy Department’s Energy Information Administration is scheduled to announce its supply report later Wednesday.
Some analysts point to growing crude demand in developing countries as reason to expect prices will extend a two-month rally.
“Evidence of a steady rebound in global oil demand is continuing to accumulate,” Barclays Capital said in a report. “Non-OECD Asian and Middle Eastern demand continues to grow at a phenomenal pace.”
In other Nymex trading in May contracts, heating oil fell 0.28 cent to $2.2655 a gallon, and gasoline rose 0.71 cent to $2.3554 a gallon. Natural gas jumped 4.0 cents to $4.136 per 1,000 cubic feet.

During the first week of June, the national average price of diesel fuel decreased as did the prices in all regions. The current national average for a gallon of diesel is $2.928, a decrease of 0.018¢ from last week. By comparison, the price for a gallon of gasoline decreased to $2.7015 per gallon which is 0.024¢ lower than last week.
Bloomberg Energy reports that as of Monday, June 1, the spot price for a barrel of West Texas Intermediate oil is $75.09 which is $1.05 lower than last week’s price.

By comparison, the price for a gallon of gasoline increased to $2.743 per gallon which is 0.042¢ higher than last week.
Bloomberg Energy reports that as of Monday, June 21, the spot price for a barrel of West Texas Intermediate oil is $78.61 which is $3.52 higher than last week’s price.
